Symantec and Hitachi Data Systems have signed a new global partnership agreement

Beginning in February 2014, Symantec NetBackup and Enterprise Vault software products will be available from Hitachi Data Systems, both directly and through the extensive HDS TrueNorth partner network.

 

NetBackup is the market share leader in enterprise backup and recovery, and Enterprise Vault is the market share leader in enterprise archiving and e-discovery. Symantec and HDS share many common large enterprise customers and have worked together successfully in the field to provide those customers with highly scalable and reliable, high performance data protection, retention and recovery management solutions.

 

With this agreement, the relationship is now formalized and provides incentives for our sales teams to work even closer to meet our customers’ ever increasing data management challenges. These products are available via the HDS price list on a worldwide basis, with the exception of China and Japan.

This is a tremendous opportunity as we are combining the market strength of a Tier 1 software company and a Tier 1 storage company to solve customer challenges, broaden opportunities and be disruptive to our joint competitors.  We’ve already seen tremendous activity across multiple markets that have led to a number of large transactions since the agreement was signed in November, even without the partnership being publically launched. Over the next several quarters, the partnership will expand with deeper technology integrations, continued awareness and go-to-market activities providing even more opportunities in the marketplace.

 

HDS TrueNorth partners that are also accredited to sell NetBackup or Enterprise Vault through the Symantec PartnerNet program have the choice of acquiring these products through either channel, however when purchasing through HDS PartnerXchange, you will receive partnership credit for both programs. Your HDS and Symantec channel managers can help you make the most profitable choice for your situation.

 

These offerings are a net add to the HDS portfolio of data protection, retention and recovery products. They do not replace any of our current offerings, including Hitachi Data Protection Suite, powered by CommVault, or Hitachi Data Instance Manager, which addresses the “copy management” problem with block-level, incremental-forever continuous data protection (CDP) for Microsoft Windows and VMware environments.

 

Our overriding strategy is to provide complete end-to-end solutions to our customers’ most pressing needs, and we’ve been hearing from them that data protection is among their top pain points. Data management requirements are varied and complex, and growing fast. This relationship helps us to fulfill customer needs with the leading backup and archiving solutions in the market today, as well as offer unique capabilities that leverage our own IP.
