TriHealth, a healthcare provider serving the greater Cincinnati area, recently received the 2015 Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) Health and Life Sciences (HLS) Innovation Award as part of a ceremony hosted by Scott Bowman, VP of Sales-East Region and John Carselle, Sales Director-Ohio River Valley. John Mettey, Director of IT Infrastructure, Conrad Nicholas, Operations Manager for Information Systems,  and Doug Robertson, Service Project Leader accepted the award on behalf of TriHealth.

The HLS Innovation Award recognizes customer achievement in novel implementation of technology in the areas of healthcare and life sciences. The award was created to promote medical innovation, cutting-edge research and smart use of technology and the clinical data it generates. It focuses on customers engaged in innovation representing breakthroughs from past approaches and its effect on the provider’s ability to optimize patient services and obtain better clinical outcomes.

TriHealth faced a unique challenge in managing exponential growth in the number of physicians, employees, patients and transactions after a series of acquisitions. As a result, it looked to realize major advantages in features and functionalities by updating their data management infrastructure and upgrading to Epic EpicCare 2014. TriHealth implemented two HDS Virtual Storage Platforms (VSP G1000) to transition EpicCare off the current VSP environment. After a cut over to the new VSP G1000 in less than 10 minutes, TriHealth can now leverage the VSP systems for consolidation of  its Virtual Machine (VM) server environment. The new technology prepares Tri-Health to handle significant growth across the enterprise over the next five years.

“We are thrilled to have been named the recipient of the 2015 innovation award. Cutting-edge technology is crucial to providing the quality of service that lead to better health in the communities we serve. We have experienced significant results after the HDS implementation,” said Mettey. “Moving to the new infrastructure has increased performance with FLASH as well as enabling more efficient and secure replication management.”

“TriHealth has been a valued partner for several years now, and  continues to impress us with its enthusiastic integration of new technologies that pave the way to clinical innovation,” explained Bowman. “ We are confident the new infrastructure will have a positive impact on TriHealth’s level of service to their communities.”

TriHealth’s mission is to improve the health status of the people it serves through a full range of health-related services, including prevention, wellness and education in more than 130 sites of care. TriHealth’s vision is to be the place where people want to work, where physicians want to practice, and most importantly, where the community wants to go when they need the best quality, service, safety and value in healthcare.
