“Why is HDS not included in the Flash Magic Quadrant?”
Oh you noticed too, well Gartner decided to only include systems that had a specific, non-HDD supporting model. The Hitachi systems can be configured as AFAs with extreme performance, high capacity and full functionality, but we do not currently offer a model that cannot support disk drives. Despite having multiple products that are “all flash” capable, and which excel in such a deployment, we were not able to participate in this analysis.
The irony here is the HDS systems clearly outperform most flash systems on the market, while still offering the high-availability and full functionality expected from Hitachi. We publish SPC and SPECsfs benchmarks to back up our claims. The HUS VM, which is often used in flash-heavy configurations, provides 1M+ IOPS at low response time, over 300,000 IOPS in SPC benchmarking and teamed with our Hitachi NAS (HNAS) to provide the lowest ever Spec.org NFS response time tested. At the high-end, a single VSP G1000 for instance can provide nearly 4 Million IOPS at low response time, the equivalent total IOPS of about 10 Pure Storage systems.
Sticking to the facts, HDS has shipped over 85PB of flash capacity, sold thousands of systems with flash and have seen our revenues jump 200% year over year. For additional information we have a number of great resources and proof points posted on PartnerXchange.
