Hello HDS Community members,
We take your privacy as a user very seriously here at the HDS Community. Our goal is to provide more awareness and control over how your personal information appears to others on the site, while at the same time having enough information available to create a positive collaborative environment.
One such challenge we've come across is that users in the community don't always know who they're talking to - it could be another customer, an HDS employee, or even someone from their own company in a different department. This is because currently, users are not required to fill out their company name when they register with the community.
With this feedback in mind, we're considering switching the profile field for "Company" to a required field for all users. We want to be clear that all users still have the option to hide their company from other registered users in their profile privacy settings (see below), so if you don't want others to know what company you're from you can still keep it private. All we'd be changing is the default action to now require filling out the company field.
All that said, we want to give you, the Community, a chance to voice your opinion and let us know if you're in favor of or against it. We'd love to have an open discussion about it, so let us know what you think!
How to hide your company information (or any profile information) from being visible:
1. Go to your profile and navigate to "edit profile & privacy"
2. Click over to 'privacy options'
3. Select the profile fields you wish to edit, and click the drop-down and change appropriately. Also note: on the right side of the page you can test viewing your profile as another user would.
